Educational Campaign

The Toolkit.

The BirthBox™ Toolkit was designed to be supplemental to routine prenatal and postnatal healthcare. The handouts are reproduced with permissions and may be downloaded and printed by an expectant mother, new mother, or support partner. The content selected is meant to equip women and support partners with valuable information needed to feel empowered in decisions related to SAFER BIRTH, FAMILY PLANNING, and FAMILY BONDING. 

Specific topics range from a basic guide to breastfeeding offered in both English and Arabic, the benefits of babywearing, information on contraceptive options and their efficacy, and common risks to be aware of regarding sexually transmitted infections and female genital cutting as they relate to birth. In total there are twelve handouts with one offered in English and Arabic, and a second, emergency feeding handout, offered in English, Arabic, French and Swahili.

Individuals can download or print the information on their own and study independently of a group, or BirthBox can partner with a birth professional in a community to teach community wide classes. The community classes are encouraged, over the individual option, as we believe community support is vital to creating systemic and long-term change.

At BirthBox, our overall goal is to lower infant mortality rates in developing nations. We believe our educational campaigns provide communities with the opportunity to create wide-spread change and steward an environment that is women and birth friendly, where fathers and support partners are encouraged to remain active and engaged throughout pregnancy, childbirth and infancy. Our mission is to empower women and support partners with the ability to feel prepared and knowledgeable in decisions relating to their children’s birth and immediate needs, building strong families and leading to inspired children and a better tomorrow.

To encourage partnership with local birth professionals and participation in community-wide educational campaigns we have created The BirthBox™ Sleep System to uniquely accompany The BirthBox™ Toolkit. Upon completion of the Safer Birth, Family Planning and Family Bonding campaigns attendees will be given The Sleep System, which provides useful tools and a safe sleep environment for baby.
